Nick Hawkins BSc

Research Assistant

Biography

Nick has been involved in materials characterization for more than 25 years. He has extensive experience in the measurement of samples using Thermal Analysis and Rheology in particular. At Engineering Sciences he runs a Materials characterization laboratory for DPhil/Post Doc's at Oxford and this service is also available for external interest. Nick also has experience in Fretting fatigue of metals and Digital Image Correlation (DIC) for accurate measurement of strain and displacement.

Research Interests

  • Characterisation of bio materials by thermal Analysis & rheology
  • Characterisation of elastomers by thermal analysis and rheology
  • Characterisation of polymers, pharmaceuticals and foodstuffs by thermal analysis and rheology
  • Fretting fatigue of metals

Current Projects

Falcon project

Investigating mechanical properties of elastomers used for encasement of rocket propellant.

CEMTEC
