Royal Society Newton International Fellow

Biography

Dr Tushar Kanti Mandal is a Royal Society Newton International Fellow in the Mechanics of Materials Lab at the University of Oxford, led by Professor Emilio Martínez-Pañeda. Before joining Oxford, he was a Research Associate at Imperial College London.

Tushar's research focuses on understanding the failure mechanisms of solids with a primary emphasis on fracture dynamics, crack anisotropy, and environmentally assisted failures. Presently, he is developing mechanistic models to simulate biodegradation mechanisms, aiming to enable the next generation of medical implants. He is an expert in phase field theory, finite element modelling and simulations. Furthermore, he holds industrial research experience specialising in nuclear power plant structures. His outstanding contributions have been published in esteemed journals like Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering and have also been presented at many international conferences.
