Dr

Greg Colyer

Postdoctoral Researcher

Stipendiary Lecturer in Physics, Trinity College

TEL: 01865 283472
COLLEGE: Trinity College

Biography

Greg's doctoral thesis, in Theoretical Physics at Oxford, concerned turbulent energy transport in the MAST plasma experiment at Culham. Before joining the OTI, he was a postdoctoral researcher in planetary atmospheric dynamics at Oxford, and earlier at the University of Exeter. He has also worked in the commercial IT sector, and represented the UK on the JPEG international standards committee.

Research Interests

Greg's research includes modelling the generation and control of turbulence, computational fluid dynamics code optimization, and plasma simulation.

Current Projects

Greg is currently working on an aspect of upgrading the Oxford Turbine Research Facility. The goal is to produce and manipulate turbulence so as to match a variable target specification at the turbine inlet, whilst still matching the temperature profile as is done already. This will enable different engine environments (including lean-burn and novel fuels) to be mimicked more accurately without actual combustion.
