Information about the undergraduate course in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford: entry requirements

Welcome to the department lecture, with audience throwing colorful balloons

Entry Requirements

We’re looking for students with exceptional academic ability and a hunger to learn more. If you can demonstrate a passion for engineering and for applying your technical knowledge to solve real-world problems, we want to hear from you.

Qualifications you'll need

A-Level (or equivalent)
A*A*A, including Mathematics and Physics. The A*s must be in Mathematics, Physics or Further Mathematics.
International Baccalaureate
40 (including core points) with 776 at HL (with 7s in HL Mathematics and Physics)

Mitigating circumstances

If you’re predicted A*AA, you may still be offered an interview, if our admissions tutors think you have potential to do well on the course. This is usually because of circumstances that have caused you to fall short of your full potential. This might be because of disruption due to a change of schools or teachers, bereavement or an illness.

If this is the case, you should make it clear in your UCAS personal statement and/or school reference. However, any offer will be conditional on you achieving A*AA.

Other requirements

English language requirements

If English is not your first language, you may also need to meet our English language requirements.

GCSEs

During their GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications), applicants are expected to have achieved a significant number of A* and A grades, including in mathematics and science subjects.

Physics Aptitude Test

All candidates must also take the Physics Aptitude Test (PAT) as part of their application.
