Ocean Coastal and Water Resources Engineering
The subjects of Ocean, Coastal and Water Resources
Engineering are taught as specialist options in the fourth year of the four-year
Engineering Science course at Oxford. The topics covered include wave
mechanics, wave statistics, wave loading on cylinders and fluid-structure interaction, wave refraction by sloping beaches,
wave breaking, design of sea walls and breakwaters, and engineering hydrology. In recent years, there have also been optional
3rd year design projects by student teams designing fixed and floating platforms for marginal sites
in the North Sea, and offshore wind turbines. 4th year projects are offered in the areas listed below.
At postgraduate level, there are research projects concerned with the following topics.
