MATLAB For The University of Oxford

The University of Oxford has a Total Academic Headcount (TAH) license for MATLAB, Simulink, and add-on products. Faculty, researchers, and students may use these products for teaching, research, and learning. The license allows individuals to install the products on university-owned equipment, as well as personally owned computers.

Designated Computer License

Individual MATLAB License

This is the simplest license to obtain. All you need is your Oxford University Single Sign On user name and password. It is the only MATLAB license available on computers owned by undergraduates and taught students. An Individual License is restricted to one individual user name on the computer. Users with different user names will not be able to use MATLAB. So an individual license should not be used in classrooms or on any computer that requires more than one user to use MATLAB.

Concurrent License

The Concurrent License is obtained from a University License Server. So you must have a connection to the University network to use this license. I would recommend using the concurrent license if you have a large collection of computers, such as a computer teaching classroom. The license on each computer is automatically updated when the license on the license server is updated. You do not have to update the license on each computer.

Installation Keys are sent to the Departmental or College MATLAB representative.

Designated Computer License

The Designated Computer License is specific to each computer. So when the license is renewed each year, the license on each computer has to be updated. However, it is not restricted to one individual user name like the Individual License.

MATLAB Online allows you to use MATLAB through a web browser, without downloading and installing MATLAB. It is an online version of MATLAB.

To generate a service request, you need the license number. The MATLAB command license

will give you our license number. If MATLAB is not working, look at your account page on the MathWorks web site.
