The 2015 Heat Transfer Society Prize for best undergraduate project was won by Alex Brant for this project "Investigation of Mixed Impingement and Convective Cooling in a Gas Turbine Engine Case Cooling System". His project investigated the effect of cross-flow on impingement cooling and correlated local heat transfer coefficient patterns with dimensionless flow parameters for direct application to engine design.

Alex was awarded his prize for £1000 at the 52nd Heat Transfer Society Annual Dinner which was held at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London on the 18th March.  Alex has accepted a job with Rolls-Royce and now works in design engineering in Derby. The Heat Transfer (www.hts.org.uk) is the only UK learned society devoted solely to the field of heat transfer.
