Group Leader
Dr. René Bañares Alcántara
Since 1980, my general research interest has been the application of
Computer Science techniques in Engineering, focusing mainly on the use
of Artificial Intelligence techniques for chemical engineering design,
synthesis and diagnosis.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. I also studied at Carnegie Mellon University, where I obtained both my Master’s and a Ph.D in the field of Chemical Engineering. Upon completion of my studies, I worked for various academic institutions including the Instituto de Investigaciones Eléctricas, Facultad de Química and the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Edinburgh.
Since 2002, I have been a reader at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford and a fellow of New College, Oxford.
My current research interests are in the areas of
-
development of support systems for the design of policies to achieve environmental targets
-
acceleration of the validation of the pharmaceutical processes through the use of ontologies
-
development of support tools for Multi-Criteria Decision Methodologies (MCDM)
I welcome further queries on both my research interest and research group. My contact details are here.
