Pradeep Suresh Babu

pradeep.jpgI obtained a bachelors in chemical engineering from IIT Madras in 2004 and Ph.D in chemical engineering from Purdue University in 2008. My Ph.D research with Prof. Venkatasubramanian and Prof. Reklaitis at Purdue was on the development of an ontological framework for managing mathematical knowledge in chemical engineering and its application toward model based control and decision support.

In the summer of 2008, I was at Oxford where I worked with Berkan Sesen on the development of OntoREG, a decision support tool for compliance management in the pharmaceutical industry.

My general interests include process systems engineering, pharmaceutical engineering and artificial intelligence topics. In my spare time, I indulge in singing Indian music, Latin dancing, tennis, volleyball, and (while at Oxford) punting.

Maricela Claudia Bravo Contreras

maricela.jpgMy current research project is concerned with the development of Ontology-based systems for the pharmaceutical regulation compliance. As a computer scientist, my main objectives are related to the development and use of software tools and algorithms to support different steps of the overall regulation compliance process: extraction and representation of regulations in a machine-readable form, analysis and evaluation of the knowledge base by using reasoners and deductive systems, representation of pharmaceutical processes with formal process languages, and evaluation or measurement of the level of compliance of a particular process in accordance to the regulations.

My other areas of interest, most of which have been applied to e-commerce activities such as e-markets, e-negotiations and e-business include :

  1. Web service architectures
  2. Web service composition
  3. Web service discovery and mining
  4. Communication in multi-agent systems
  5. Interoperability between heterogeneous Web-based agents

In 2006, I obtained a PhD in Computing Science, specialized in Distributed Systems, at National Centre of Research and Technological Development (CENIDET), Mexico. In 2003, I obtained a MSc in Computer Science at CENIDET. In 1996, I obtained a BSc in Information Systems at Zacatepec Institute of Technology, Mexico.

My area of interest is in the decision making and environmental sustainability of WWTP.

At the moment, I am developing a multi-criteria model based on the methods and models of decision making as one of the tools to support the choice of a particular sewage treatment system. For this, I have chosen models to represent the parameters of environmental sustainability involved in the construction, operation and maintenance of the main arrangements of WWTP. The application of new methods and techniques followed by simulations and analysis of the results aims to provide the means to analyze the same problem according to different points of view and criteria. This will facilitate the process of decision making where technical parameters, costs, environmental and social sustainability are considered.

Qualification wise, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University Paulista (Brazil) and a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Applied to Business from the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). I also hold a Master's degree in Business Management from the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil).
