UNIQ is a programme of free summer schools at Oxford University.
UNIQ is open to Year 12 (or equivalent) students studying at UK state schools/colleges. Students apply for a specific course that aims to give them something of the 'Oxford experience'. UNIQ participants live in an Oxford college for one week in July. They attend lectures and seminars in their chosen subject, and workshops about applying to Oxford. A variety of social activities are arranged in the evenings.
The activities in engineering are intended to emphasise the importance of analysis in design and to engineering modelling. Students are introduced to aspects of research in the Department of Engineering Science through brief talks from graduate students/postdocs. Participants also work in small groups to prepare their own presentations on engineering challenges.
In 2014 the Department of Engineering Science will again be running a summer school as part of this scheme. If you might be interested in taking part in the engineering programme or another of the Oxford UNIQ courses watch out for details on how to apply at www.uniq.ox.ac.uk.
