Outstanding Engineering Student Awarded IET Scholarship

Congratulations to Philip Sibson (Exeter College) who is a 4th Year MEng Engineering Science student at the Department for having been awarded a Belling Scholarship worth £3,000 by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Philip SibsonThese prestigious IET scholarships are called the Belling Engineering grants, and are made in memory of the late Charles Reginald Belling, who was born at Bodmin, Cornwall in 1884. In 1912 he started his own business in Enfield, manufacturing electric heaters, electric water heaters, electric cookers and immersion heaters.

These grants are open to British citizens who are due to commence the final year of an IET-accredited mechanical or electrical engineering MEng degree course in the next academic session.

The scholarships are part of the IET national awards and scholarships programme, which provides £200,000 each year to support young people in their engineering and technology studies.

In 2010 Philip was one of two Engineering Science undergraduates awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering "Engineering Leadership Advanced Awards".
