Professor of Engineering Science
Paul Buckley’s research interests lie in the field of Polymer Engineering. The aim is to assist the development of polymer-based material systems, manufacturing processes and products. The strategy is to improve physical understanding of the engineering performance (especially mechanical performance) of solid polymers, and to exploit this in developing better predictive modeling tools for engineers working with polymers. Projects in recent years have encompassed glassy, semi-crystalline and elastomeric synthetic polymers, and polymer matrix composites, in addition to natural polymer systems (tendons, skin). Sponsors of recent work have included EPSRC, the European Commission, the Royal Society and NATO. Much of the work is collaborative, in association with industrial companies and other universities in the UK and overseas. Until recently Paul was a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Polymer Science, Part B (Polymer Physics). Current Research Projects
