Predicting the behaviour of any design before it has been built is vital in all modern engineering, and no more so in industries where real world testing is impractical or impossible: think aeroplanes, spacecraft, or Formula One cars. But moving from a few analytical 'masses on springs' to something more representative of a real world system, whilst keep the model in a form that's understandable, can be difficult. Using insight from past experience, Tim will discuss a variety of modelling approaches for racing applications as used in both academia and industry.
