Postdoctoral Research Assistant - Flow Through Soft Porous Media (Experiments)

Applications to be received by 12pm on Friday 4th of January 2019

Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Poromechanics Lab, led by Professor Chris MacMinn, in the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). This post is part of the major ERC Starting Grant project DEFTPORE: “Deformation Control on Flow and Transport in Soft Porous Media”, and is for a fixed-term of 2 years (with the possibility of a 1-year extension).

The aim of the project is to combine high-resolution experiments with theoretical modelling to revolutionise our fundamental understanding of, and predictive modelling capabilities for, the coupling of flow, transport, and deformation in soft porous media. You will be responsible for the development, execution, and interpretation of experiments as part of a collaborative team.

You should possess a PhD/DPhil (or be near completion with thesis submitted) in engineering, physics, geoscience, or applied mathematics, and have a strong background in experimental fluid mechanics. Excellent communication skills and the ability to independently manage your own academic research and associated activities.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Chris MacMinn using the email address below.

As part of your application, you will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement (describing how your research interests, past experience, and future plans fit with the advertised position), a CV, and the details of two referees.

Only online applications received before 12.00 midday on Friday 4 January 2019 can be considered.

The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
