We are seeking a full-time PDRA to join the Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering research group at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is funded by EPSRC and is fixed-term to 30 September 2021.
The research will contribute to a collaborative project on The Physics and Mechanics of Creep Cavity Nucleation and Sintering in Energy Materials in partnership with the Open University, the University of Bristol and Beihang University, China. The research at Oxford will focus on the development of models for cavity nucleation and early stage sintering, based on fundamental theoretical studies and experimental observations from the detailed experimental programmes conducted at the partner institutions. You will be responsible for developing new physics based nano and micro mechanical models, evaluating data and combining models.
You should possess a PhD/DPhil (or be near completion) in a discipline relevant to the project. You should also have experience of materials modelling and good computational skills.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Alan Cocks (ahref="mailto:email@example.com"target="_blank"firstname.lastname@example.org).
You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
Only online applications received before 12.00 midday on 29 November 2018 can be considered.
The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
