Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Mechanical Engineering

Applications to be received by 12pm on Monday 30th of July 2018

Grade 7: £31,604 - £38,833 p.a.

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Mechanical Engineering to join Professor Jin-Chong Tan’s group (Multifunctional Materials and Composites Laboratory: www.eng.ox.ac.uk/tan in the Department of Engineering Science in Central Oxford.

The post is funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant “PROMOFS” and is fixed-term for 1 year and available immediately.

Your research will focus on the structural resilience and mechanical performance of Guest@MOF (metal-organic framework) materials to enable engineering of photonics-based sensing technologies. You will aim to characterise the mechanical integrity of functional materials when subject to a range of external stimuli (stress, UV, temperature, pH), and to develop structure-property relations to guide the design of improved materials.

You should hold a PhD/DPhil in engineering science or related subjects. Candidates with prior experience in characterising the detailed physical properties of host-guest MOF systems are highly encouraged to apply. The applicant must be able to demonstrate a high level of competence in laboratory.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Tan: jin-chong.tan@eng.ox.ac.uk.

You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
