Verification and Use of Finite Element Model of Settlement Damage to Buildings Due to Tunnelling

Here are the details of the background to the model development.

Data from case histories of a number of occurrences of tunnelling in soft ground beneath structures has been collected. 3-D combined soil/structure finite element models similar to those described in the background have been assembled and analysed using the in-house program OXFEM. Results from the models are being compared with the original field observations (see slides).
