Academic Background
I completed a Master’s degree by research in Civil Engineering at Cork Institute of Technology in 2013, which was funded by their Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering. My thesis was titled 'An Investigation of Transverse Load Distribution in Masonry Arch Bridges'. Before this I received a first-class honours Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, also at Cork Institute of Technology.

In October 2013 I joined the Civil Engineering Research Group at Oxford. My DPhil on the topic of 'Foundation Optimisation using Finite Element Limit Analysis' is sponsored by Subsea 7, seabed to surface specialist engineering contractors.

Research Interests
I am investigating a range of 2D and 3D foundation design problems of specific interest to Subsea 7, with a focus on the assessment of ultimate bearing capacity under combined loading (vertical, horizontal, moment, torsional). My work involves detailed benchmarking and optimisation of Subsea 7 designs using the research group’s own software for finite element limit analysis (OxLim), as well as commercial finite element software (Abaqus) and analytical solutions. My research is supervised by Prof. Chris Martin.
