  • (24/07/09) Recently the IBME has been awarded £8 million to build a centre of excellence in personalized healthcare. Treating cerebrovascular disease is one of three themes of this project. The objective of this theme is to address unmet needs in the treatment of cerebrovascular disease. It involves optimal treatment for stroke patients and new minimum invasive technology for treatment of cerebral aneurysms.
Dr Zhong You will be responsible in developing novel flexible minimally invasive stents for cerebral aneurysms which are difficult or impossible to access endovascularly. Based on the Fern Leaf Stent developed by Dr You, Xiang Zhou and Professor James Byrne, the new stents will have a very high percent cover area only at areas around the aneurysms in order to isolate irregularly shaped, wide-neck aneurysms. Elsewhere they are sparse to achieve flexibility so that they can easily be navigated through tortuous arteries.
Two research positions are soon to be advertised at http://www.eng.ox.ac.uk/jobs/.
