Andrew GarradWind energy and its part in electricity generation in the future

Andrew Garrad graduated from New College in 1975 and then obtained a PhD in Theoretical Fluid Mechanics from Exeter University. In 1984 he co-founded the Garrad Hassan Group, which grew to become the world’s largest renewable energy consultancy. When this company was acquired by Germanischer Lloyd (GL) in 2009, Andrew became President and then Chairman of the merged company GL Garrad Hassan. He is a board member of the European Wind Energy Association, and past Chairman of the British Wind Energy Association. In 2006 he received the European Wind Energy Association’s Poul la Cour prize for outstanding achievement in the wind energy field. In 2009 he was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering of Bristol University, and he was elected FREng in 2011. He is an Honorary Fellow of New College.
