Graduate Research Degrees
** APPLICATIONS FOR GRADUATE RESEARCH DEGREES STILL WELCOME **
MSc by Research and DPhil programmes
The study of all branches of engineering in Oxford is encompassed in a single, unitary Department of Engineering Science. The opportunities in the Department for postgraduate study and research include the conventional disciplines of engineering such as chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical, as well as information engineering, applications of engineering to medicine, low-temperature engineering, and experimental plasma physics.
The advanced research degrees which may be awarded to graduate students in the Department are Master of Science (MSc) by research and Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil):
- For the MSc by research, fees are payable for up to six terms, with a minimum of three terms in residence.
- For the DPhil, fees are payable for up to nine terms, with a minimum of six terms in residence.
In practice it is unusual to complete the MSc by research in less than two years or the DPhil in less than three. Candidates admitted to the Department for these degrees must carry out research in a topic of direct interest to at least one member of the academic staff.
Further information is available about graduate research degrees in the Department of Engineering Science.
Application deadlines: 30 April, 30 May and 30 June 2013
Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Healthcare Innovation
The CDT programme represents a new and exciting concept in graduate training in the Department of Engineering Science, offering DPhil students the opportunity to undertake one year of intensive training, followed by three years working on a DPhil. On graduating, you will not only have gained an Oxford DPhil in engineering but will have first-hand experience of working on clinical problems alongside engineers involved in the healthcare industry. Further details of the programme may be found online at http://www.ibme.ox.ac.uk/cdt
Application deadlines: 30 April, 30 May and 30 June 2013
Graduate Taught Degrees
A 12-month full-time MSc in Biomedical Engineering is aimed at graduates with a good first degree in engineering, or the physical sciences to prepare them for careers in biomedical engineering in industry, healthcare (including the UK National Health Service) and research. Further information regarding this graduate taught programme is available.
