New Technology Centre with China’s Regenerative Medicine Industry

China Bio-Med Regeneration Technology Limited (CBMRT) and the University of Oxford have just announced the establishment of a new centre for engineering focusing on stem cell therapies and tissue regeneration. The £7.5m collaboration between CBMRT and Oxford University will not only fund a new centre but also support 20 graduate studentships.

Outstanding Achievement Apprenticeship Award

Congratulations to Kathryn Scott, Engineering Science Administrative Assistant based at the Department’s Southwell Laboratory, who has been awarded the University of Oxford apprentice prize for outstanding achievement and progress. Kathryn was presented with her certificate and gift voucher by the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Personnel and Equality, Dr Stephen Goss, at a recent ceremony.

New international partnership to provide affordable healthcare in India

Researchers from the Department's Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBME), in partnership with The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc), have been awarded a 4 year project (totaling approximately £1million) from the Wellcome Trust to develop affordable prostheses for the large majority of the Indian population.

Gold Medal for University's iGEM Team

The University of Oxford’s first ever iGEM (international Genetically Engineered Machines) team has been awarded a prestigious Gold Medal at the 2014 Giant iGEM Jamboree in Boston, USA. The team of 12 third year undergraduates across five subject disciplines, including three Engineering Science undergraduates, was the first to represent Oxford at the competition.

First Korean Workshop on Future Science and Technology

In August this year, during a visit to South Korea, Oxford University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andrew Hamilton, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Research Co-operation with the Korean Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). This was followed up recently by a 17-strong ETRI delegation visiting Oxford for the first ETRI-Oxford Workshop on Future Science and Technology.
