The 2012 Sloane Robinson Scholarship

This year the Sloane Robinson Foundation has awarded a scholarship to graduate, Su Yi Zhang who is undertaking the Department of Engineering Science's MSc course in Biomedical Engineering.

Sloane Robinson Scholarship - 2012
In May, Mr George Robinson met with Su Yi Zhang at his home in Oxford to present Su Yi with her scholarship certificate.
Su Yi Zhang (St John’s College, Oxford), from Guangzhou in China, is currently working on her MSc project, titled: “Detection and analysis of pain signals from Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) patients”. This focuses on examining the correlation between measured pain signals and the level of pain experienced by DBS patients, and developing a more efficient method for pain signal detection. The aim of Su Yi’s project is to increase the understanding in pain signals, which may potentially lead to a better way of controlling the existing DBS pain treatment.

Sloane Robinson scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional talent and promise in the field of biomedical engineering who have been offered a place on the taught MSc in Biomedical Engineering.

The Department is delighted to announce that trustees of the Foundation, Mr George Robinson and Mr Hugh Sloane, will be continuing to support these scholarships in 2013. The Department is grateful to Mr George Robinson and Mr Hugh Sloane for their continued support and personal commitment to the field of Biomedical Engineering.
