2014 Rankine Lecture

Professor Guy Houlsby, the Head of the Department of Engineering Science, has been invited by the British Geotechnical Association to deliver the 2014 Rankine Lecture, the most prestigious of the invited lectures in geotechnical engineering.

Professor Guy HoulsbyThe 54th Rankine Lecture will be held in March 2014 at Imperial College, London. The lecture commemorates WJM Rankine, Professor of Civil Engineering at Glasgow University, who was one of the first engineers in the UK to make a significant contribution to soil mechanics.  He is best known for his theory for the earth pressure on retaining walls.

The title of Professor Houlsby’s lecture will be announced in July.
