Mr Howard Shiplee, CBE
In recognition of his services to construction, Howard Shiplee, Laing O’Rourke’s group executive director responsible for programme and project management development, has received the award of a CBE (‘Commander of the Order of the British Empire’) in the Queen’s New Year Honours List.
He joined Laing O’Rourke from the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), where he was Director of Construction with oversight responsibility for the successful delivery of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Park. Prior to this he was responsible for the redevelopment of the Ascot Racecourse, including the completion of the iconic grandstand in just 21 months.
Howard was previously Programme Director of Network Rail’s Thameslink upgrade, and has also held senior positions at Carillion, Amec and Bovis. He has an unparalleled career in the delivery of major projects, having worked as the Project Director on the main terminal for Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok Airport, as well as the iconic GCHQ building at Cheltenham and the second terminal at Manchester Airport.
Today, Howard is recognised as one of the UK’s most respected construction leaders with a proven track record in the leadership of a diverse portfolio of public and private sector projects.
