Support for Graduate Students

Our postgraduates are not only creative members of research groups, they also help to inspire and enrich the experience of others around them, including undergraduates, faculty and the communities in which they operate. The outstanding training they receive at Oxford provides them with a strong foundation from which to launch their careers.

Graduate students at workHowever, the rising costs of graduate study deter many top students from continuing their education at Oxford. Only a very limited number of bursaries are available. Sadly, without this financial support, students are often forced to reconsider their options. We compete with Departments the world over and miss out on many outstanding graduates who would like to come here - a great loss to Oxford. These potential leaders lose a rare opportunity to benefit from the great learning environment that Oxford provides.

Our aim is to provide an education for the most able graduate students irrespective of their background or financial circumstances. We are therefore seeking to increase significantly the numbers of bursaries available to support graduate students. Gifts of all sizes can make a real difference. The largest donations can be used to establish named bursaries, whilst others are aggregated into a Graduate Bursaries Fund from which we provide targeted support for students satisfying the twin criteria of academic excellence and financial need.
